Yesterday Apple introduced iPhone OS 4 dev beta, this has been a moment many iPhone users have been looking forward to for some time. Steve Jobs took to the stage and got straight to it.
Introducing over 1500 dev API's and 100 end user features, Steve spent the time explaining 7 key features and today I would like to cover a few of these.
MULTITASKING
Apple have finally introduced this to the iPhone OS, Steve explained that Apple have been working hard on bringing this to the iPhone for sometime but they wanted to do it the right way by creating a method that uses less power.
Steve claimed Apple have done this and done it well, offering the advantage of multitasking without the power problems you get with other phones.
iAD
This is a great concept, Apple offering an advertising channel inside applications. This will mean that more applications can be offered for FREE by being ad supported. But the real story is Apple moving into advertising, Google made the first move by moving into the phone Market and now Apple are hitting back with advertising. Let the battle continue!
Apple also introduced a new mail application offering intergrated mailboxes as well as threaded messages.
These changes will be released to the end user this summer and to iPad users in the fall. All new features will be avaliable on the 3GS and iPad but the 3G iPhone will loss multitasking.
If you want to check out all the features see Apples keynote on the iTunes store for FREE
