The iPad has now been on sale in the US for 1 day now and is proving to be a great hit, Twitter was showing "Apple iPad" as one of its most talk about subjects. One of the first things i want to clear up is some of the comments made by a small portion of the worlds press and to fix there naivety around the iPad.
1. The BBC reported - "Laptop Killer"
I am extremely surprised at the BBC's misinterpretation of the iPad, The iPad was and has never be intended to replace your Laptop. The iPad is a sofa surfer, a mobile blogger dream, flexibility of applications and a personal HD media player.
2. Cnet - "Netbook killer"
This i would suggest as a more viable report than the BBC, but still i think that the iPad is an alternative to a netbook rather than a netbook killer. I am a little confused by the BBC and by Cnet, i dont understand why these reporters cant see that 1 product is not right for every customer! Some people would prefer a netbook to a tablet just as much as some people would prefer a tablet to a netbook.
My thoughts
Firstly i would like to conclude what i think are the Pro's of the iPad -
1. High resolution display
2. Thousands of custom build App's designed specifically for the hardware
3. Powerful yet efficient
4. Access to a huge amount of content
5. Fantastic build quality
6. Proven usability
7. Convenient and fast boot time
8. Portability
9. Multi-touch interface
10. eBook reader
11. N wireless support
12. Price
13. powerful and cheap Office applications
14. Great customer service
iPad con's -
1. No flash support
2. No webcam
3. restrictive OS
4. Lack of connectivity ports
5. Lack of included accessories
6. no native iChat application
7. Low memory
8. No tethering with iPhone
Conclusion
To me its a fantastic device, but my point as with any device it is not right for everyone! I love the iPad and it suits my needs much better than a netbook would.
